Legal Question in Family Law in California

Passport

How can I go about getting a passport when I owe back child support to the state of CA who will not release it until total amount is paid? I have it coming out of my pay for over 15 years and I am not a flight risk...I am 56 years old and would like to take my son to Europe. This son is by second marriage. The son I pay child support on is by a DEFAULT judgement and he is 32. Please is there a way? How much will this cost me?

Thank You

Re: Passport

Federal law determines who may receive a passport. If you owe more than $2,500 is child support, you cannot get a passport. A release from the state or county will not satisfy the requirement that child support has to be up to date to get the pass port.
