Legal Question in Family Law in California

in the past my soon to be ex spouse was verbally abusive towards me and my child with special needs and mostly not involved. Since my filing for he has trying very hard to be a better parent and insists now on doing 50/50 time with child, but since works has relatives watch child. My work schedule is flexible and I could take care of our child when he is working instead of other relatives. Can I ask that I has this extra time with our child? prevously I took child to nearly all therapy appointments and arranged play dates to help address his need to work on communication.

Your request to have first right of providing care for the child when father is working and your schedule permits seems reasonable. If he is unwilling to add a provision to your parenting order, then file a motion to return to court to deal with this parenting issue.
