Is the Paternity document necessary?

Is the Paternity document really necessary to file for child support, visitation rights? and Custody?

I was never married to the father

Until he is legally determined to be the father, he has no support obligation and no custody or visitation rights. The documents you mention are used by the court to establish the facts necessary to find that he is the father.
