Legal Question in Family Law in California

paternity 101

My husband recieved a letter from a woman stating that he has a 11 year old daughter. what steps do we take from here? How should we protect ourselves legally and financially while still taking full responsibilty if this girl is his daughter. The woman hired a private netective to locate him (he is presently in state prison) and states she is looking for nothing from him but to make contact at the request of the 11 yr old girl. What steps do we take from here? thank you.

Re: paternity 101

probably the first thing your husband may want to have done is to have a paternity test taken to find out if this woman's claims are true or not. thereafter, if necessary, some type of amicable support agreement can be drawn up between the two parents of this child and filed with the court. an attorney could be quite useful in this entire process. if you would like further assistance, please email my Law Firm directly with more specific details regaring your husband's case and what you ultimately would like to see done.
