Legal Question in Family Law in California
Paternity Results
The results from my paternity test came out to be 97% what does that meen? Does that mean I am the father of the baby and will have to pay child support - i do not believe I am the father. I was married for 10 years, 4 years ago I separated from my wife (not legally) now we are in the last stages of our divorce and she had a baby and says it is mine. My lawyer says it is not worth fighting - that I am the father and will need to pay child support. Any advise?

Re: Paternity Results
97% is a fairly good indication that you are the father, although
modern tests usually give results 99%+. Was this only an HLA,
or a DNA as well? If you need further convincing, get the additional
test.
I agree that it is not worth fighting it. Unless you find another potential
father who tests at 99%+, the fact that your results are as high
as they are, and that the child was born to the marriage, mean that your
chances of persuading a judge that you should not be declared the child's
legal father are very, very poor.
