Legal Question in Family Law in California

I currently pay child support for two children. One of the children just turned 18 and graduated from high school. My current divorce decree specifies a total monthly payment for two minor children. According to my divorce decree, I am no longer obligated to pay for one of the children since she is now 18 years old. Do I need to have some sort of legal modification filed since my child support payments will be reduced/changing? If my ex and I come to an agreement on a lower payment amount will that be sufficient to start paying lower payments for the one remaining minor child?

It's fine to come to an agreement on support but to be certain the old order is changed, you must file a new court order.

You will need to request a modification of support. Just so you know, it is cut less than half under guideline. For further information, visit http://www.ellifritzlaw.com
