The easiest way to collect child support is to contact the local department of child support services. They are responsible for collecting child support so that the parent does not have to go on public assistance. If you were not married and the father is not on the birth certificate then you will need to first establish paternity before a child support order can be ordered.

For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.

As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
