Legal Question in Family Law in California

I pay 1800 a month in alimony and was married 23 years. My alimony has no end date. I'm 56 years old. Is it possible to retire at 62 and either reduce or stop alimony? Don't we have a right to retire at some point and not have the alimony requirement?

The simple answer is yes. There is a case directly on point dealing with retirement and how it effects support (Marriage of Reynolds). That might not necessarily stop support, since at that time you would have to seek a modification and the modification would be based upon your respective incomes, to include any retirement you might receive, at that time. It would be good for you then to seek out the help of a qualified family law attorney. Good luck!
