Payment on awarded property (car)

Wife was awarded exclusive rights to a car during divorce proceedings, however only Husband's name was on the car's lease papers. After few months after seperation, wife decided to stop payments and abondomned the car. Who is financially responsible for the payments, breach of leasing agreement, etc?

In family court the person who takes the property normally takes the debt. Based on this general principle she would be liable for the lease payment.

However, the lessor of the vehicle has the right to hold you responsible for the payment of the lease payment and any damages to the vehicle. Thus you will be liable to the lease company and a breach of the lease will be reflected on your credit. The best way to deal with this is for the person responsible for the debt takes the property.
