Legal Question in Family Law in California

Pay-stubs

If the respondent in a family law case, repeatedly neglects to provide pay-stubs, how would child support eventually be determined? Would they go by what the petitioner suggests they earn, until respondent proves otherwise? If you're just going to tell me to hire a lawyer, please don't even bother to answer. Thank you.
