Legal Question in Family Law in California
I am planning on changing my "legal" name to the name I have been using for 52 years which is my married name. Is my "legal" name my birth name or the name I have been using for 52 years? The other problem is that I have 4-5 "aka"s due to mispellings, etc. by others that are impacting my problem and I am thinking I need to include those as well but the forms I have to not facilitate more than one name being changed. Please advise. Thank you.

As long as you are not doing so to defraud someone, you can use any name you wish to. The name on your birth certificate is your birth certificate name. It is also a "legal" name, as is your married name you have used for so long. A man named Robert also can have the "legal" name of Bob, Roberto, Rob, R, Big R, etc. I do not see why you need to undergo a name change. You do not tell us what your problem is that makes you want to change your name.
