i possess the car now

my husband and i are separated. the car bought during the marriage is in his name only.

i now possess the car i have a set of keys, I'm sure he has reported the car stolen. there are payments to a credit union in both names. what is the proper way for me to keep the car in my possession now?

If he reported it stolen he can go to jail for making such a report. Have your lawyer get a restraining order giving you possession of the car pending the resolution of your divorce. this is very easy to do.
