Legal Question in Family Law in California

Post-adoption Question

In August (2008) My girlfriend gave birth to a baby girl. We had already choose a family to adaopt her and she was adopted 3 days later. Both my girlfriend and I met with a social service worker and had us sign paper giving away all our rights. Now, in June(2009) I was served with summons and complaint for the county of orange, california from social service. In the summons it stated I am to pay child support starting May (2009). My question is if the baby was given back to social services am I to be notified? Why would I have to be paying child support if I signed away all my rights and the baby is adopted? Thanks for all your help in advance! Noah

Re: Post-adoption Question

It would appear that mother changed her mind and canceled the adoption, or the county is mistaken. You should either retain an attorney to represent you or contact Orange county regarding the status of you case and provide a copy of your relinquishment of parental rights. Once you learn what is happening you can then determine the options available to you.
