Legal Question in Family Law in California

potential future earnings

My husband who is a high level

executive is going through a mid life

crises. Bought a harley, found a girl

20 years younger and wants a

divorce. We have been married 21

years and have two teenage sons. I

have not worked in 18 years, I put

him through graduate school, moved

continent to continent, state to state

for his career. He is about to be made

CEO and his financial earning power

in the future (over the next 10yrs) is

going to be in the millions. At the

moment we have huge debt and if I

agree to the divorce at this time I

walk away with very little. What are

my rights towards his future earning

potential, salary, bonus's, stock

options etc.....? And is it realistic for

me to expect half of his earning

potential for 10 years?

Re: potential future earnings

You have a long term marriage. As such the court cannot terminate spousal support until you are able to support yourself, remarry or die. contact an attorney regarding your rights. In a 20 year marriage there should also be a substantial amount of community property.
