Legal Question in Family Law in California

my preemie... and my rights as the father

What rights do I have as a father if my baby was born premature and I was excluded from the birth certificate? I have full intentions of being in this child's life and I plan to provide for him as well. I'm not sure what the reason was as to why I was excluded from the birth certificate but I would like to be added onto the birth certificate. Not just with my last name for the baby but mentioned as the father as well. Is there anything I can do?

You need to file for a paternity action so that you can be judged the father of the child. As of now you have no legal rights to the baby because you are not the father. You can also ask the other parent to allow you to file a voluntary declaration of paternity.

Good luck, as always please contact a lawyer in your area before taking legal action.
