Legal Question in Family Law in California

Pregnant ex-girlfriend

I have a child with an ex-girlfriend and now the mother is trying to tell me that she thinks I should pay for half of her medical bills while pregnant. Do I have to pay for half of her medical bills while she was pregnant? I pay child support and I have my child with her already covered on my current health insurance. Also, they both live 100 miles away from me and several times she has asked me to sign over my parental rights.

Re: Pregnant ex-girlfriend

No, In California, legally, you don't have to pay any part of her medical expenses during her pregnancy, but it would be the standup thing to do. You are the father of the child after all.

You, of course, need to pay child support when your child is born. Perhaps you should rethink impregnating women you are not married to.

Good luck.
