Legal Question in Family Law in California

Preparing for a separation

My husband and I am on the verge of separation. I am a homemaker with two grade school children. I have not worked for the last three years because we decided I should give up my job to stay at home. I was an accountant so I should be able to find some kind of job. Should I prepare myself for separation by getting a job now, before my husband moves out or should I wait until he leaves? Can I get some kind of spousal support even though we were only married six years?

Re: Preparing for a separation

The norm would be spousal support for 3 years. However, your best approach may be to start looking for employment now. This would allow you to select the best job for you and your children. Also it will probably provide more monthly income than spousal support.
