i am presently filing for divorce in calif. I would like to take my ex off my car and health insurance when should I do this?

Only after you get a court order permitting you to do so. Once you file for divorce, there is an automatic order that goes into effect and one of the terms is that no insurance can be canceled until further order of the court.
