Primary Physical Custody

At what age can--name removed--child in California legally state that they want to go live with the non-custodial parent? I have had primary physical custody of my 11 year old son for 9 years. We live in another county than his father. I remarried last year. His father, who is going through--name removed--second divorce with two young children, is telling our son to tell me that he can go live with his father. His father shares--name removed--2 bedroom apt with--name removed--male friend and does not keep regular visitation schedule.
