Legal Question in Family Law in California

property rights

I am an unmarried male, and have lived with my girlfriend for over 15 years. Approximately 7 years ago, we bought the house we were renting from her brother. I am not on title, though I have made mortgage payments, and contributed to the household as each paycheck I got was deposited into her bank account. I now wish to end our relationship, and have recently moved out. Much of my personal belongings are still there. Am I entitled to any copensation with regard to the real property? Is she at liberty to dispose of my personal property still at the residence?

Re: property rights

She would be liable for the caring for your property. You should contact her and make arrangements to pickup your personal property.

In regard to the house, unless you can prove that there was an agreement to share in the purchase and increase in equity of the house it will be difficult to get get a judgment for a portion of the equity. A house purchased would be expected to have a sizable amount of equity, and worth the cost of an attorney.
