how can I protect my family's assets. I found out I've been married for 30 years. I had 2 children buy this man is there now 29 and 30. my immediate family has passed all but my mother. she has Dementia and is now in a facility. this man has never contributed to the raising of our children. Not financially, nor by physical presence. when I asked about the marriage said he knew that he had an attorney but you won't give me the attorney's name. my father was in real estate. she is my mother both work hard for all that the have. I'm afaid he's trying to wait to see what happens with my mother, and try to cash in on the assets that she may leave behind. How do I safeguard these assets?

Any assets belonging to your mother will pass to you by inheritance. Gifts and inheritance are considered separate property. Please talk to an estate planning attorney on the best way to manage your moms estate now that she suffers from dementia.
