Legal Question in Family Law in California

Protecting our business from an ex-girlfriend

My business partner and I are starting a skip tracing business in California. Is the mother of his 3 year old child (they were never married) entitled to any rights, money, etc. of the business (other than child support)? If so, what can we do to protect our business?

Thank you.

Re: Protecting our business from an ex-girlfriend

A girlfriend has no right to the labors of the boyfriend, the same applies in the reverse situation. She would only be able to get child support. There is one caveat to this; if they lived together in a state where common-law marriages are recognized and the completed the requirements for a common law marriage that marriage would be recognized in California. Then she would have a community property interest in the business.
