Legal Question in Family Law in California
Im considering proving my son's paternity but I am worried that I will be forced to give his father visitation rights. Is there a way that wont happen? My son currently has my last name and the reason I want to do a DNA test is so I can get child support. The father of my son has never shown interest during my pregnancy and he was not present when my son was born. My son is a month old and he has not made an effort to see him.

You can get child support, but there is no legal way to keep the father from having reasonable visitation with his child.
You should WANT your son to have a father in his life, and that is the STRONG policy of the state. If he doesn't want to be in his son's life, you and the court can't force him, but unless he's a SERIOUSLY unfit parent (think child abuse or endangerment) he will get visitation if he asks for it, and your son will be better off for it.
