Legal Question in Family Law in California

Purchased wedding ring by false pretenses

My brother met a woman on the internet from another state. She lured him into believing she was going to marry him. She misrepresented herself as being financially stable business owner ect. Long story short, everything she said was a lie. She has nothing and has judgments against her from credit bureaus and other companies for various debts. He charged a very expensive ring she insisted on. Said it would be a good investment as it was appraised for much more. (excess of $20,000 on a credit card)for the wedding. Last visit she took the ring to be sized and cut off all communication to him. Can he somehow get the ring back or take legal action against her?

Re: Purchased wedding ring by false pretenses

from the facts given so far, this could be a very "tricky" situation all the way around. however, based on the facts so far, your friend may have very strong and valid tortious claims against this person who deceived him with the wedding ring. if you can email me directly with more specific facts and dates to this case, i can further assist and/or offer possible representation to your friend who unfortunately met up with this unscrupulous woman.
