Legal Question in Family Law in California

I put child custody law because that's the only thing close to the question i need to know.

I'm sure I'm aiming dead here but

When I had my son I promised the

dad that he would not have to pay child

support if he would help my son buy a car

or pay for college when he was older.

My son is twenty now which is where I

see their being a problem, but I'd still

like to know is there anyway to have

him help pay for his college or anything.

or is just something to let go?

I've always allowed him to have contact

with him until he was 18. When I asked him

to start helping out with college or if he saved

any money to help him he just stopped talking

to me and him.

he gave him about $500 in the last two years

but now he's going to better college soon and

it's quite expensive.

I just want to know if there is anything to do

to make him help or if it's his choice?

You need to get into court immediately if you want to get anything. You can get back support for three years back, but since support ends at 18 or high school graduation, whichever is later, and you can only go three years back from the date of filing, every day that you don't file is a day less back support you can get. Once three years passes, from 18 and out of high school, you and your son are out of luck.
