Legal Question in Family Law in California

I put some of my ex-husbands personal item out at the curb and told him to come get them. A few days later he said he came by but nothing was there. I don't know if he is lying or not, but am I liable if everything got stolen? If so, do you know code it is under?

I would start with your local ordinances, which prohibit littering.
