Legal Question in Family Law in California

Quadro

I was divorced about 9 years ago from a Police office and there was supposed to be a Quadro done. I haven't had the funds to hire an attorney. He is retiring this year and I need to know what I can do. Do I have to hire an attorney. Is any of the responsibility on him. The divorce decree states within a certain amount of time after he retires he has to start paying me?

Re: Quadro

What you are referring to is a Qualified Domestic Relations Order, or QDRO, anad pronounced as you have spelled it, Quadro. The cost of the preparation of that order is not as expensive as the original proceedings and should cost you about $600. That is what I charge. I think that you will need to come up with that money and get the order done, otherwise you are at his mercy to pay you. Check your order, does it say who must pay for it to be completed? In a general sense, this will be governed by the specific language in your underlying Judgment. The QDRO is the Order (Qualified Domestic Relations Order)requiring the pension to divide the benefits and make payments to the non-employee spouse.

For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
