Legal Question in Family Law in California
I have a question about alimony and divorce law.
After my parent's long marriage and horribly damaging divorce, my mother was able to get 1250.00 a month from my father. However, since then she has hooked up with a very wealthy boyfriend whom she lives with (we suspect). We know for sure that he has also recently bought the house she lives in.
My question is at what point could her alimony be cut off? Does she have to marry this guy in order for the alimony to stop? Or could just living with him or having her mail sent to his personal home be proof enough that she's with someone else, thus cutting off the alimony?

California doesn't have true alimony. We have "spousal support" and "child support." Child support is almost entirely driven by the parents income, but spousal support is a more complex and subjective calculation. If someone else is paying your mother's expenses that would warrant a review of the spousal support order to see if it should be adjusted.
