Questions on domestic violence incident
Hello, recently (Aug 4) my wife commited violence against me by threatening to hit my head with a hammer, kicked me in the groin and bit me as hard as she could leaving a signficant bite mark on my forearm. The police were called and she was arrested and put in jail. She spent one night and one day in jail prior to being release around 11pm Aug 5th. She was release without seeing a judge, did not have to go back and see a judge and I did not tell anyone that I wanted to drop the charges.
My questions are:
Are the charges dropped automatically for some reason?
Can I still press charges against her?
What is the potential sentence in a case like this?
Who do I contact to initiate charges - the police, the courts?

Re: Questions on domestic violence incident
You cannot initiate charges. You can contact the da and apply some pressure for charges to be filed. Contacting a local news agency may also put some pressure on the da to file charges.
