Legal Question in Family Law in California
Re-arranging married and maiden names on official documents
I was married in 2000 and changed my name at the DMV and on my passport to be First Middle Maiden Married, without a hyphen. I now wish to re-arrange the names to put my husband's last name BEFORE my maiden name, (First Middle Married Maiden).
I never changed the name on my social security card (it says First Middle Maiden). Now the DMV won't issue me my renewal license since the names don't match on my Driver License and my Social Security card.
What I want is to have First Middle Married Maiden on ALL documents. They will not budge at the DMV and so I have a temporary license for now, with First Middle Maiden Married. I will soon be taking the first part of the Medical License Exam and wish to have this name change reflected on my Driver License which will serve as ID for the exam. Is it possible to change the name on my SS card to First Middle Married Maiden and thus require the DMV to change the order of my last names on their records?
If I do change my name at Scoial Security I will have to show them my passport (since I am Nauralized)which has First Middle Maiden Married. I am frustrated with not being able to have my identity the way I wish and apprectiate any detailed help you can give me.

sounds like you need to petition the court for a legal name change. its pretty easy. some people do it without a lawyer but lawyer fees should not be very much.
