Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have recently found out that I am not divorced from a man I married 20 years ago and have not seen or heard from since he left me in 1989. I assumed he and i were divorced or he was dead. I have been married twice since this marriage. What should I do??

Get divorced. If you are still in your latest marriage, you will have to remarry. Since I expect you have no idea of your ex's whereabouts, he will have to be searched for. If he is dead, you need no divorce him obviously, but if he cannot be determined to be dead and the search doesn't find him, the divorce can still be completed by "serving" him the papers through "publication" in a newspaper.
