Legal Question in Family Law in California

Recently found out I am the father of a 2yr old son. Paid to do a voluntary paternity test, which concluded I am 99.99% the father. My son is being cared for by a man whose name is on the childs birth certificate. He collects money from the state for the child. The mothers where abouts are not known. What is the first legal course of action that needs to be taken to establish paternity through the court??

File an action to establish paternity. Move quickly, you only have a very limited amount of time from when you have reason to belive record paternity is not true. Either hire an attorney to help you (highly recommended) or you will need to find the forms to get started on the courtinfo.ca.gov website, and then contact the Family Law Facilitator's office in the county court of the county in which the child resides for help in filling out and filing the forms.

You need to file a petition to establish parentage, commonly called a paternity action.
