Legal Question in Family Law in California
I have just recently received documents for Child Support on my sixteen 1/2 year old daughter. I do not work and my boyfriend supports me. How am I suppose to pay child support and will they go after my boyfriend?

The court can order you to seek employment. If you do not seek employment then the court can attribute income to you. The amount of income attributed to you will depend upon a number of factors. Such as your job skills, why you are not currently employed outside of the home etc. The court cannot directly take money from your boyfriend, but if the support is not paid as it comes due it accrues interest at 10% and is due until paid. You should consult with an attorney well before the hearing date.
They cannot go after your boyfriend's income. You need to respond to the papers by filing the proper response papers to show you have no income. You can expect, however, that you will then be ordered to find work and come back to court when you find it to have an amount of support set, or if you don't find work to come back and explain why you haven't. Eventually, if you don't find work the court will order support anyway, and it will become a balance due adding up until you decide to really try to find work. Bottom line: you're going to get a job.
