Can I get engagement ring back when

there was no commitment?

If you gave an engagement ring in contemplation of marriage and the engagement was called off by the other person you have a right to a return of the ring. Good Luck, Pat McCrary

Under Civil Code Sec. 1590, a person has a right to recover a gift made in contemplation of marriage where the marriage has not actually taken place.

If you are having trouble recovering the ring, consider hiring an attorney to write a letter to your ex notifying her she is obligated to return the ring.
