Legal Question in Family Law in California
Reconciliation after Divorce is Final
My exhusband and I reconciled several times after our divorce was final, and even became engaged again, during the last reconcilation. We have since split up again, never remarrying. According to our original settlement, I was to pay him within 4 years, for his share of the house. What recourse do I have in extending the time to pay him, since we reconciled 2x, before finally calling it quits? When he left the last time, it left me with only 7 months to pay him, instead of 4 years, as was written in the agreement. He has filed papers on me, for contempt of court since the 4 yr deadline has passed.

I am not sure reconciliation has anything to do with your obligation to pay him on the original settlement. It may be best to pay him off now. See an attorney right away. Contempt matters are quasi-criminal. Which means each act of contempt carries 5 days in jail.
