How can I reduce the amount I am ordered to pay in child support

My son has been living with my ex for the past year and I have just found out that he is on state aid. And now the state is coming after me for child support. I have one child with me and there is no way I can pay the amount they are demanding and still pay my bills. My bills are all housing, cost of living expenses (rent, ulities, childcare, food). I dont know what to do. There is currently a case against my ex husband for my son to return to me since he is unable to care for my son, but until there is a ruling on that what can I do to get the amount reduced?

The only way to reduce it is to claim hardships and examine your income and expenses like would normally do in a a hearing. A family law facilitator in your county would be of use to assist you in the paperwork to file for a child support modification.
