Legal Question in Family Law in California

Can a relative become my legal guardian without my parents permission?

In Texas there is a law that you are legally able to move out of your house without your parents consent at the age of 17 but your parents still have guardianship of. I want to move to California but they said that I wouldn't be able to move to California because the legal age to move out of your house over there and not be considered a runaway is 18 and they can put me in juvy over there. Is that possible even if I have relatives over there willing to be my guardians?

I suggest that you research whether or not Texas has a procedure for becoming an "emancipated minor", meaning you would be legally resonsible for yourself. If you identify the family law court in your jurisdiction, they may have information on their website about this issue. Another resource is http://www.findlaw.com, where you can search Texas family law codes for this information.

Good luck to you.
