Legal Question in Family Law in California

re-opening case

My spouse filed for divorce in 1999. Neither of us completed the dissolution process, so we are still married. How do I go about re-opening the case? I don't even know where he is. It will be a simple case as we share no children or property. I just want to dissolve the marriage, and don't know if I should re-open the existing case or start all over, and what can I do since I don't know how to serve him?

Chances are good that you can pick up where you left off. The smart thing to do would be to go to the courthouse, purchase a copy of every document in your Court file, and then consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!

Re: re-opening case

you should promptly consult with an attorney to go over your existing case filed with the court. there is a good chance you will be able to resume your case. however, you definitely want to consult with an attorney asap. if you would like a free phone consultation on this matter, email us today with your contact information.
