Legal Question in Family Law in California

Self Representations and Legal Assitance

If I decide to represent myself in a civil action, can I use the services of an attorney as an advisor or associate. What are the limitations on the attorney's actions as my assistant.

Many thanks,

Roger

Re: Self Representations and Legal Assitance

an attorney is first and foremost a legal counselor if you will. thus, you would be able to use such legal counsel in an advisory role if the attorney offers such services. the extent of the attorney involvement in your case would be up to you more or less if the attorney is willing to assist you in such a legal advisory or "coaching" role throughout your case. just make sure your attorney-client agreement reflects all of the points you both agree upon in this process. if you would like further assistance in this matter or a free phone consultation, feel free to call us directly at 562-983-5576 over the weekend.

Yes. However, I believe an attorney opens him/herself up to malpractice exposure if he/she does.
