Your friend can give you friendly advice outside of court but he cannot go with you before the judge. Sorry. You do need someone to represent you because, without hearing your particular details, usually in these cases the wife is saying terrible things about the husband to convince the court to give her full custody.

Noone, I repeat NO ONE can stand up to personal insults by their wife in court and keep their cool. Unless you are willing to stand there in court and get blown over and take the full punishment you definitely must have a lawyer.
