You will need to bring a motion in court for a court order allowing you to change the visitation plan due to changed circumstances. It helps a lot that you already have sole physical custody. It also helps that the father already lives a long way away. Financial hardship is a valid reason to move the child away from another parent. If you will be making more money, that should reduce the father's support obligation. Put this way, he may not be so objectionable.
