Legal Question in Family Law in California
who is responsible for medical bills
17.5 yr. boy and just turned 18 yr. girl have miscarriage at 6 weeks. bills are in girls name. 17 year old boy feels his parents should be held responsible even though he wasnt living at home for 7 months prior to pregnancy.. basically we feel both teenagers should have to pay, but her parents want to sue us for the money. medical treatment was for the girl, and baby was not even born so we feel this treatment was for her and we should not be held responsible. or are we responsible for this. these two are not married he was 17 1/2 at the time and she turned 18 within days of becoming pregnant. are we legally responsible for her emergency bill of miscarriage at 6 weeks???

Re: who is responsible for medical bills
My understanding is that her parents are responsible for medical bills incurred for her, while you (your son) would be responsible for bills incurred for the baby. Since the girl miscarried, her parents (or her, if she's over 18) are responsible for the medical bills.
You should consult with an attorney, in spite of my answer here.
Re: who is responsible for medical bills
The short answer is you would be responsible for one half of the necessary medical bills. Your son was not an emancipated minor, and you are responsible for the "deeds" of your child until 18 yo.
Re: who is responsible for medical bills
It is my understanding that a parent who's minor child is also a parent is not responsible for the support of the grand child. That would logically include the cost of prenatal, birth and child rearing costs.
