I have a restraining order for myself an our my two kids against my ex boyfriend, is it illegal for me to contact him?

It's not illegal, but it probably is not a good idea. He could tell the court that you contacted him and the judge would think you didn't really need the protective order, or you were just a troublemaker.

Not a good idea. Make no contacts unless you talk to a lawyer first.
