Legal Question in Family Law in California

Restraining Order Question

I was assaulted by my next door neighbor ( I ended up knocking him out and was arrested and served a year in county jail ) the judge issued a restraining order preventing me from living in my home. Is that legal? Can the judge make it illegal for me to live in my own home? I could see the harrassing/annoying part of the restraining order but how can the judge rule that its illegal for me to live in my own home? Is there a way around the RO that would enable me to live in my house? Could I sue the county that issued the RO to either allow me to live in my home or possibly make them buy the house from me? It seems unfair I have to pay a mortgage on a property I'm being restrained from living in
