Legal Question in Family Law in California

restraining orders cross state lines

I live in NV and my ex lives in CA and is trying to get a restraining order on me. I want to fight it but I would like to know my options. Do I have to attend the hearing in CA or can I send a lawyer to represent me or give my defense over the phone? I go to school and have a job and do not have the time to leave the state for this. Thank you for your time.

You do have to defend it in California if that's what you want. You can send a lawyer to represent you but the lawyer is at a disadvantage because he can't ask you questions if your ex says something that is not in the paperwork.

Lawyers are able to appear by telephone but I am unsure if they would allow you to do it. I am licensed in both Nevada and California so if you are unable to appear by telephone, you can hire me to set up the telephone appearance and we stay here in Las Vegas.
