Legal Question in Family Law in California

rights of the family when brother/son dies

My brother passed away and according to his wife, myself and my mother have no rights in obtaining information on his death.He was killed on the first plane that crashed into the tower on Sept. 11th. His wife constantly repeats she is the next of kin and is the only one with legal rights to this information. This is very hard on my mom. I am just curious if this is correct. Thank You for your time.

She is correct except as to public information from newspapers , radio & TV
