What rights does a man have to a child if he is not recognized as the father on the birth certificate?

None, until he establishes paternity by jointly signing a declaration of paternity with the mother, or by a court determination of paternity. Once he establishes legal paternity, however, he and the mother have the exact same rights and responsibilities as divorced parents.
