separation-informal

my wife and i have been married for ten years. we live in california san diego. if an effort to reduce any trauma to children we are trying alternatives to divorce. can we create a LEGAL and BINDING document that separates all current assets and debts that we currently have AND separate our future assets and debts? Basically, we agree on all financial issues now. we wish to separate all financial matters now and in the future. can we create a legal document to do this?

Husbands and wives can enter into agreements regarding their assets. To get a court order which is probably safer, you could file a petition for a legal separation. This action should give you the result you are looking for.
