Legal Question in Family Law in California
Sequestered Documents
I wanted to look up a Divorce case from last year that has been settled already. I went to the county court and submitted my inquiry to the clerk. He told me that the divorce proceeding had been sequestered and that I could not see it. Is this true? I thought I could only be denied access if it was sealed? In any case, what does the sequestering mean in terms of who is and is not allowed to view the case?

Re: Sequestered Documents
I am not familar with this terminology, but it would appear that for some reason the court has ordered that the file is to be held by the clerk and not made available for viewing. I was invovled in a case where the court put a hold on the file as there appeared to be evidence that the judges signature had been forged and other misconduct had occurred with the file.
