Once you are served with paperwork, the children are not allowed to leave the state without permission of the court or the other parent. You must petition the court for orders for travel. You are not able to change the residence of the children without a court order. If you have plans to leave, you should contact a family law attorney so that you can file the appropriate motion.

Ms. Van Haren is correct, but of course you can leave the state without the children at any time.
